This fishery causal loop diagram reveals one way of seeing the system of fishery and ocean conservation, the theory of change of various interventions and how they interact with each other. By making each stakeholder’s mental model explicit, it enables people to understand each other’s perspective, examine one’s underlying assumptions about the change process logically and objectively, and sense-make the whole system collectively. This is work-in-progress, it is intended for fostering multi-stakeholder dialogue and collaboration through collective modeling building. We hope the process of revising this model collectively will allow us to deepen mutual understanding, see the current reality, form a shared vision and identify high-leverage points for creating together what we truly desire. I’m interested in how this approach has been used to simultaneously address: sustainable agriculture in the rural development country context, nutrition and lowered child mortality, education, and community driven resilience. To me we miss the boat as the cross-section of these are rarely addressed in a systematic way and therefore we never support real systemic change that sticks. High production without good nutrition for the children in the farming communities isn’t good enough. Good nutrition where children don’t learn to read, write and do basic math has no opportunity to support learning, just physical growth. In the absence of healthy, literate citizens (even where production under normal circumstances if high) communities may not have the knowledge and skills needed to mitigate against the negative impacts of climate change and to build, together, resilient communities. Any ideas, examples. …. Hey, Joe! We met at the 2013 Executive Champion’s Workshop. I doubt if you remember, but have always been impressed with your work. Heard your presentation at the 2012 Cape Cod Foundations Course (I think it was 2012)
