Mike Morrice is the founder of Sustainable Waterloo Region, and Green Economy Canada. Through leading both of these organizations over an 11 year period, he has supported hundreds of businesses as they set and achieve sustainability goals, while increasing their profitability. Businesses from all sectors – from tech to manufacturing to non-profit – have now reduced the equivalent of over 40,000 cars off the road every year.
Most recently, in the 2019 federal election, Mike was Kitchener Centre’s Green Party candidate for Member of Parliament. Over the course of a 10 month campaign, Mike and his team made history: they knocked on every door in the riding (most of them twice), raised far more money than it took to win in 2015, and increased the Green vote from 3% to 26%, the highest of any Green candidate in Ontario, ever.
Mike originally came to Waterloo Region in 2003 to study at Wilfrid Laurier University, completing a double degree in business and computer electronics.
He has been named Young Alumni of the Year by Laurier, Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the KW Chamber of Commerce, won a Special Citation for Social Entrepreneurship by EY Canada, and has been an Ashoka Fellow since 2012.
